He takes the case, with conditions, but just as he gets to the part about fees, the phone rings - it is Mephisto, and he wants them to visit the Elder of the Toyama vampires, who has just waken from a six month sleep and will see them now. A very interesting meeting indeed, involving a policeman-vampire who has been turned, no doubt by one of the four. This is all just the tip of the proverbial iceberg, of the world that is Shinjuku.

The vampires are individualised and brilliantly conceived with Kikuchi's unique skill of mixing traditional classic movie monsters with new and unusual ideas. I love Dr.

The Demon Princess ~ Part 2 - Gacha life Mini Movie

Mephisto at the best of times but in this one he really comes into his own. As a pretty boy enigmatic hero, he puts Vampire Hunter D firmly in the shade. Everyone falls under his spell, male and female and there's plenty of scope for slash addicts. This series ramps up the sex as well, Princess one of the 4 uses her sexuality to lure victims and none seem immune - Can't wait for the face-off between her and Mephisto - he comes to think that she might even be more beautiful than him!

The one down side to this is the writing - for a start its in translation, which I often find causes ambiguities.

About This Item

However Kikuchi writes like a screen writer - everything here is very visual, but it reads oftentimes like a script rather than prose. I found myself having to re-read sections to work out what was going on and who was who - the vampires in particular take quite a while to separate and come into their own. Do persevere though because the story is most certainly worth it. Have book 2 on hand because this ends on a cliff hanger.

Apr 19, Audrey rated it really liked it. Wow, totally not what I expected. Because of this book, I may actually read some of Kikuchi's manga. This novel was a bit hard to understand at the beginning. Although there were many different characters described in this macabre and horrible world with so much EVIL and sadistic hedonism, story the story was written so eloquently that it became beautiful even though its a translation from the original Japanese language.

Yashakiden: The Demon Princess, Volume 1 (Novel) by Hideyuki Kikuchi, Paperback | Barnes & Noble®

The words carefully crafted the scary but entrancing monsters Kikuchi creat Wow, totally not what I expected. The words carefully crafted the scary but entrancing monsters Kikuchi created. The illustrations also helped instill the mystery and violence of the world building. The only thing I disliked was the rather aggressive description of the horrific and explicitly Chinese villains. The emphasis of Chinese bothered me for its association of Chinese with evil, BUT this description was probably focused on describing the unique foreign nature of the villains.

Overall, I really liked the book. The story started as a 3. The meeting with the vampires goes civilly enough, and an offer is made - and rejected. Mephisto is intent upon seeing that Ryuuki is destroyed, both for what he did at the hospital, and h is work at the government ward building. Kikiou does not seem unamenable to the idea, understanding its necessity, although Shuuran, who has it for Ryuuki pretty badly, does not care for the notion. Upon the younger vampire's return, a battle ensues, but no deaths can be reported, and Doctor Mephisto ends up in his world once more, where Yakou has been searching for him.

Setsura awakens to find Doctor M at his bedside, who tells him what he can of what has transpired during the senbei owner's time of unconsciousness, further adding that Setsura's temperature is 80, his pulse is 40, he has no appetite and constant chills - same as the Doctor. He also reports on the death of the Elder, the funeral for whom shall be that night, and of how the Elder destroyed part of Princess' face in the process, disfiguring her rather handily. Setsura agrees to go to the funeral, and he leaves the hospital, for he has a job to do, preferably before the vampires come out at night.

He learns that there is a man, in Arakimachi, who is familiar with Chinese traditions and legends, a professor emeritus named Niwa. So it's off to Arakimachi for Setsura! He finds the house of the professor - and more than he has bargained for!

Afterwards he returns to the hospital - and to Doctor Mephisto - while a policeman friend of Setsura's receives a different type of welcome from the gang of four! Takako's mother has arrived at the hospital, and is noisily demanding to see her daughter, so Mephisto and Setsura oblige her by taking her to her personally.

She is not pleased, to say the least, besides being skeptical of the Doctor's diagnosis. But she quickly sees the truth of his words in her daughter's actions. Later, the physician and the private investigator attend the Elder's funeral. Afterwards, Setsura has something he needs to do, during the course of which he runs into his policeman friend, who offers to take him where he needs to go, which is smack dab in the middle of Kabuki-cho, in west Shinjuku.

  • It's far clearer what's going on in this one and the characters are more clearly defined. Loved the snakes and the vampire dolls. I'm also really keen to find out how the story will progress after Setsura begins to turn What disappointed me was the lack of ero 2nd volume in Kikuchi's vampire magnus opus contiunes where volume 1 left off - with Mephisto and Setsura facing the 4 ancient Chinese vampires that have invaded Demon City.

What disappointed me was the lack of eroticism and originality that I saw with book 1 - little here actively shocked me and snakes Still this is well worth a read and I'm very much looking forward to book 3!
